The island Punt and its small Gabriel small island are lost with 1h30 boat
in the north of Mauritius.
Well on these Virgin Islands are still preserved, but it is not rare to find
there good ten trimarans and crammed catamarans tourists.
Business obliges, this kind of ballade attracts badauds more and more, but
reassure, these islands are protected and you will be able to discover a fauna
there and a splendid flora nothing has to see with the island with the Stags,
here not of restaurant, not of shops, just a spade screws in full nature and
a bathe in a turquoise blue lagoon, a genuine aquarium, still populated by
many fish.
It is with 8h15 that we join JF and his team with the small landing stage
of Hole to the Hinds, where is amaré its new trimaran "Manou Cat".
An animal of race, which asked for 2 years of construction. A quite beautiful
realization, which will make you live unforgettable hours, lost between the
limpid blue of water and blue azure of the sky, for a still preserved destination
of the madness of the men; The island Punt and its Gabriel small island.
After having embarked the food for the picnic, we take the broad direction the Plate island. Cross the lagoon and go along the coral barrier until the swing-over bed to the Gunners. From there we move away and you find the full sea.
The coast which moves away, the island of the Corner of Test card which
approaches and sea as far as the eye can see. A small council, provide with
an effective solar protection, because on the open sea, with the reverberation,
the sun types hard. Attention with the sunstrokes!
At the end of a small hour, you will arrive at the foot of a splendid cliff
which plunges in the ocean. It is the Corner of Test card, an almost inacessible
island in boat, bus very little point of inking. This island is besides natural
concerning many birds.
Carry on road by sailing round this island, by taking care not too to approach
us cliff and join the ocean. You can distinguish with far the Plate island
and the Gabriel small island, but it still takes us a small hour before arriving
at good port.
With a little chance, along the course, you will be able to meet like us dolphins,
or to see a cachalot.
Destination is in sight, but you still should pass the small coral barrier
which girdles the island and there believe me, you take paradise with you.
Water is of a blue cristalin, the funds and the corals are splendid. The weather
is hot on the boat and hardly unloaded, we precipitate with water. A water
with 28°, not very deep.
Do not forget the masks and tubas, the spectacle is worth the blow! Swimming
with the top of the corals, multicoloured thousands of fish come to say to
you hello.
You will cross scalars, clownfishes, fish the moon, fish trumpet... It can
to also sometimes happen you to cross a tortoise, Hippocampi, in short, a
multicoloured fauna, a splendid spectacle!
Have
this beautiful bath in a silent island. Roasted Punch, salad, fish and meat,
the sprinkled whole of a small rosy Mauritian with the so particular taste
(we let to you discover it!).
After the lunch, you have the choice between making the nap in the shade of
the filaos, visiting the island or to turn over to bathe you.
If you choose the ballade, a small way which skirts the beach leaves towards
the west. After 20 minutes of walk, you will discover a wild, escarpée
coast and famous "the jumping fish". Small fish which one finds
only at this place. They have the capacity to live out of water. You can see
them per hundreds on the rocks and as soon as you arrive at their height,
they plunge in water... Strange fauna, strange beautiful and austere landscape
at the same time, which contrasts with the place where we moored the trimaran.
You who discover this splendid island, true small paradise with water clear,
will know that this island has a tragic past. It was a halt obliged for the
sailors rejoingnant Maurice. They were put there in quarantine and because
of various epidemics whose variola, much will never reach Mauritius, will
die in this place and will be buried on the Gabriel small island. The small
cemetery is still visible in the south of the small island, and the vestiges
of houses, whose church are still present on the Plate island.
To know some more read the fabulous book of Clézio "Forty",
it admirably described there the life on this lost island.
Two days on one this deserted island, far from the world, with for only company
a nature preserved, and for only occupation the diving in apnea in this splendid
lagoon, one to lay down sun on the sea and an evening with the corner of fire,
rythmée by the séga, to admire the starry vault and to surprise
themselves with rever very waked up.
And if happiness it were quite simply that!
