Mauritius Ship Models | Boat Models in Mauritius Historically, the fregate "THE UNICORN" left no tales of outstanding war feats or important enterprises-those which often mark the career of a man of war so that he can be remembered even after his disappearance. All we know is that this ship has designed by F.H.Chapman for H.M.S fleet in 1700. On the other hand we have many accurate date regarding its construction.In fact F.H Chapman, member of the Swedish Royal Acadamy of Sciences, in his admirable volume "ARCHICTURA NAVALIS MERTORIA" printed in Stockholm in 1768, gives an extremely detailed account of the calculations relating to the design and construction of the ship, as well as those relating to the study of hydrodynamic resistances. All these together with a most beautiful drawing of the frigate were used to develop this model. The results of Chapman hydrodynamic investigations are clearly visible in the lines of the hull which are quite advanced for that time when the ship was been built.

Tout ce que nous connaissons a propos de ce navire est qu'il fut choisit par F.H Chapman pour la flotte de sa majeste la reine d' Angleterre en 1700. D'un autre cote, nous possedons de nombreuses informations exactes concernant sa construction. En fait Chapman, membre de l'academie royale des sciences suedoises, dans son admirable volume "Architectural Navalis Mercatoria", edite a Stockholm en 1768, nous fait part du calcul extrement précis du concept du bateau et non seulement au niveau de la construction mais aussi en ce qui concerne les resistances hydrodynamiques.
